Despite its apparent simplicity, the photobook is an author’s discipline that requires the participation of graphic professionals, both in its conceptualization and production. Numerous variables and roles are involved in the process that can distort or enhance the discourse. Determining these variables, knowing the production flow, and understanding which tasks can and should be covered by the photographer and which should be dealt with by professionals is of vital importance to achieve the author’s intention.

The workshop “Edition and production of photobooks” will reflect on the book as an expressive format and will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on the editorial graphic process. Based on specific materials and the analysis of cases/books, the phases of conceptualization, production, and publication of a photobook will be described so that participants can have an overall picture of the editing and production process.

In addition, participants’ proposals will be reviewed, evaluating each project individually and providing advice on work methodology, control of the author’s discourse taken to the book, and possibilities for the production of mock-ups as a step prior to publication/self-publication.
